In December 1981 Ron reported to Trident Training Facility, Bangor, Washington for Trident AN/BQQ-6 factory training and a follow-on shore tour as an instructor where in April 1982 he was advanced to Sonar Technician First Class and then to Chief Sonar Technician in August 1985.
Ron returned to sea duty in February 1987 aboard Pre-Commissioning Unit Tennessee (SSBN 734) at the Electric Boat Shipyard, Groton, Connecticut where in November 1988 he was advanced to Senior Chief Sonar Technician Submarines. Following the Commissioning of USS TENNESSEE in December 1989, the ship became the first Trident Submarine to be assigned to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia. After completing the rigorous post shakedown trials and two strategic deterrent patrols, Senior Chief Rein reported to his second shore duty tour at Commander Submarine Squadron TWENTY as the Leading Chief of the Tactical Systems Department and the Squadron Sonarman in April 1991.
Following a successful shore tour, he reported to USS NEBRASKA (SSBN 739)(GOLD) as the 3M Coordinator in August 1994 for his final sea tour. While attached, he completed an additional three strategic deterrent patrols.
Senior Chief Rein retired from the Navy in 1996 after completing 22 years of active service. He made the decision to stay in the Kings Bay, Georgia Area and started up his own computer business here.
Ron is married to the lovely former Lorena May Sanford. They have two daughters, Fall and Stefanie and a son, Ronald.
Ron has been an extremely active member of Submarine Veterans, Inc. In 1992 he helped establish Kings Bay Base as Secretary. In 1993 he was the Chapter Vice Commander. In 1994 he became the Chapter Commander and served in that capacity for two years. From 1996 to the present, he has been the Chapter Secretary and devoted a lot of effort in straightening out membership problems.
